Last year George was honoured when local charity BAAGS made him patron.
BAAGS offers support, advice, advocacy, information and friendship to persons with Asperger syndrome, autism, their parents, relatives, partners, friends, work colleagues/friends, and anyone with an interest in learning more about Asperger syndrome, autism and related behaviours. They are a Group run by volunteer parents and people who work with autistic children. BAAGS hope to make people aware of the condition and the effects it has on everyone…the teachers, the families, the neighbours…everyone. It is important for persons with autistic behaviours to be allowed the opportunity to have the correct care and attention individually planned around them.
The aims of the Group are to;
Offer support, encouragement and hope.
Raise awareness of the behaviours of autism.
Raise awareness of the stress suffered by lack of knowledge.
Since becoming Patron of the charity George has done some great work to raise funds for BAAGS. First of all performing at Selkirk town hall along with other great acts such as Rob Nicolson, Gale Force & Absolutly Legless, in November 2008. The event was a great success and triggered George to organise other events for the charity. 2009 saw him take to the stage in Duns in a special show for BAAGS which was a huge success then a month later it was time to put on his trainers and run the Jedburgh Half Marathon for BAAGS which he proudly completed. He is planning more exciting events for the charity in 2010, keep tuned in for all the latest.
